Mandela Day is a time for reflection, community, and giving back—a day when South Africans unite to make a positive difference. This year, Dispose-IT had the honor of contributing to a truly impactful initiative led by Wits Business School (WBS). Together, we facilitated efforts to donate computers and set up a new Computer Lab at Tiisetso Bekezela Primary School, providing essential resources to six schools in Kanana Park, south of Johannesburg.
The Initiative
The WBS Sustainability Committee spearheaded the effort, collecting various ICT equipment and office furniture to be repurposed and donated. The goal was clear: to enhance teaching and learning in under-resourced schools by facilitating a computer donation program that gives students the tools they need to excel in a digital world. This initiative to donate computers aimed to bridge the digital divide and ensure that students have access to the technology necessary for their education.
The Computerlab initiative is part of our Corporate Social Investment (CSI) program, sponsored by Dispose-IT and Go Rentals. Supported by our customers, suppliers, and donors, this program provides under-resourced schools and communities with access to refurbished IT equipment. It aims to bridge the digital divide and equip the next generation with essential digital skills.
Dispose-IT’s Role
Dispose-IT, a Go Rentals company played a crucial role in this initiative by providing comprehensive services to update and set up IT equipment. Our ISO 9001-certified process began with receiving donated IT hardware and securely removing existing data to protect privacy. We then assessed, tested, upgraded, and reloaded the hardware in our workshop to ensure its readiness. Finally, our logistics team carefully transported and set up the equipment at the school.
A Collective Effort
This initiative would not have succeeded without the collaboration of WBS, the Gauteng Department of Education, and the generous support of our customers. Together, we made a lasting impact on the education sector, demonstrating the power of community and corporate responsibility.
The Impact
The new Computer Lab at Tiisetso Bekezela Primary School is more than just a room filled with computers—it’s a gateway to knowledge and opportunity. For many students in these schools, this is their first experience with technology, and it will undoubtedly have a lasting impact on their education and future careers.
Looking Ahead
At Dispose-IT, we believe in the power of education to change lives. We’re committed to continuing our work with initiatives like Computerlab, helping to bridge the digital divide and create brighter futures for South Africa’s youth.
Thank you to Wits Business School and all our partners for making this Mandela Day truly special. Together, we’re making a real difference in our communities.
